The Chosen - Season 2 is Wrecking my Heart Havoc

Updated: Apr 10, 2021

This painting is a depiction of Photina, the woman at the well.

She is well portrayed by Vanessa DeSilvio.

Why can a media series become so within reach that it will kindle me and many others to more searching and pondering? How can a man like Dallas Jenkins so genius and creative, together with his conspirators generate and deliberately create a show like The Chosen in this time of a pandemic? Will it matter to so many generations that will come who may or may not be willing to dig in and join the banquet of the good news-the gospel?

The series focuses on the life and story of Jesus and His disciples. It is uncovering the searchable idea of "what if" that potentially has been the enormous power causing pondering, searching, questioning, reflection, and even confusion and havoc. I cannot even begin to find and imagine the possible enormity The Chosen may cause. Nevertheless, it is but a great tool to unlock the pondering and questioning by searching for ourselves.

In this world, there is no certainty but the Holy Scriptures. Beyond it are the ones we do not see - the spirit realm, the God of the universe, and even the god of darkness. You and I are certain. We are special beings created by God. We are absolute beings designed and valued by one true God who made the heavens and the earth. Our existence was intricately thought of planned and destined for purpose, life, and greatness. How can one decide to believe that he is born here just for so? Have you not seen the great things in front of you showing you opportunities of value and prosperity? Every day is an opportunity. I mean, getting up each morning is such a blessing to be able to move our legs and get out of bed to start our way for the day. But do we just go about our day as to how we see it should be, or have we seen something beyond our grip and understanding?

My father had a bike accident in 2019 leaving him paralyzed. Living away from him can be truly wearing unable to personally care. As I see his situation from a distance, I see the real irony of how one person with all the gifts and abilities to move can be one day be stuck and cannot move freely. What I am trying to say here is that we can be thankful for whatever we have now. The abilities that we have; to think, relate, move, create, speak, write, dance, and name all the verbs we can do are all gifts we can use in good and mighty ways.

Our world population is expected to rise at 8 billion in 2023 with a portion of it paralyzed. According to studies, in the US alone, 1 out of 50 people living with paralysis. That is approximately 5.4 million people. How can we as the able ones become more agile and useful so we can help those who cannot? Or how can we become more functional making use of our capacities and abilities to contribute positively? I am just saying.

Watching The Chosen series many times now have me amazed to see the sick become healed, and even the paralytic in season 1 walk, and in the first episode of season 2 the lame Melech overjoyed, jumping. Certainly, there is no secret what God can do. What He might have done to others before, He can also do it now. But it is a matter of believing. Jesus said in the bible, Matthew 21:22, "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” When we believe, we believe without hesitation. We believe, and then we pray, and then we can expect great things!

I want to point out particularly the recently released season 2, episode 1 last Sunday - Resurrection Sunday, April 4th, 2021. The well-equipped ever-talented writers of the episode related the parable of the good Samaritan in a practical way. Jesus as a teacher ordered his disciples James and John to plow a Samaritan's farm-who was incapacitated. The Samaritan was Melech cast in the story as the criminal who attacked a Jew and took the Jew's belongings leaving him almost killed. I will not further give spoilers, as I prefer you would watch it for yourself if you haven't yet. But the writers in this episode permitted "The Good Samaritan" into convincing storylines while keeping Jesus' teaching on how to love your enemy in a practical way.

The Chosen series can face multiple criticisms in this modern-day religiosity and theological perplexities, but it definitely can trigger wreckage in one's heart to be transformed in bewilderment of God's wonder. Such a tv show or I should say an online show as The Chosen has its own app, is zooming in Jesus and His disciples' stories in a transcendent way using technology as a vehicle adding value to the already invaluable bible that has been left in a musty corner of somebody's haven.

Like the woman at the well, cast as Photina in the series, joyously and extraordinarily responded to Jesus' call to believe and tell others about the good news, The Chosen amplified the great story ever told.
